Is My marriage Legal?
A friend of mine is going through a divorce. He was married 10 months. She is not agreeing to the separation. However is his marriage evn legal if the wife's sister performed the ceremony when she was in the process of becoming ordained. On the marriage certificate it does not have her name anywhere it has a completely different person who was not present at the ceremony. friend has never met this individual. This occured in Maryland. Would this mean that my friend was never legally married?
The wife's sister could still perform the ceremony. You don't need to be ordained or licensed in order to to the ceremony. You need to be licensed in order to sign the marriage license. So that other name on the marriage certificate is likely the person who made the whole thing legal.
