The Biblical Truth About Remarriage
I am often asked if remarriage is permitted in the Christian faith? There was a time this question was seldom asked, because those of faith knew the answer, as the Bible is so very clear on the subject, as was most preaching. But we live in a different time. A time when many churches have stopped preaching the Word of God and replaced it with what the congregation wants to hear, and what it wants to hear on this subject is that divorce and remarriage are not a problem with our Heavenly Father, as He wants us to love and be loved. But this simplistic worldly spin is not biblically sustainable. In fact, it is diametrically opposed to the spiritual truth.
The Bible tells us to “be not deceived,” and those words were never as true as they are today. That’s why I wrote my book by the same name; i.e., people are being deceived into believing lies that will separate them from their Christian inheritance of everlasting life. Does that mean that remarriage dooms us to hell?
The act of remarriage by itself is not the problem per se, it’s what the remarriage brings with it that banishes us from the Holy City. Namely, sex with our new spouse, as it is branded as adultery by God, and no adulterer will inherit His Kingdom.
Scripture proves the point beyond doubt: “Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.” (Luke 16:18) Couple that with “Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, not abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10) Reading these verses, and the many companion verses of like principle, one cannot come to another conclusion than remarriage while one's first spouse is still living is a sin that disqualifies us from eternity with our Savior. Put another way, remarriage means we, whether we mean to or not, have chosen Satan over God, sin over righteousness, and hell over heaven. Don’t be deceived, that’s what your choice means, as choices in this life have consequences in the next.
That is not my opinion, it’s biblical truth.
No one should lose their salvation by being deceived into believing a lie, as eternal life is a priceless unmerited gift secured at such great cost by the sacrifice of our Savior on the Cross. Don’t listen to the false teachers the Bible warns us about. Read your Bible. And then choose life.
