How to Prevent Jealousy From Destroying Your Marriage

The most important thing to know is that jealousy stems from a lack of self-confidence. A typical scenario is that one partner in the marriage is working. The other partner can not find a job. This leads to a lack of self-confidence and jealousy towards the person that is working. And to make matters worse, there may be resentment, when one partner is doing well and the other is not. And friendships that are formed can result in conflict, feels left out of the new relationships.

How can you know if jealousy has reared its ugly head into your marriage?

Here are some signs:

- Criticism. Fault finding and constant picking at your partner, could be a sign that jealousy is at the root.

- Deception. A stream of lies and deliberate attempts at sabotaging your partner's efforts, because you do not want them to succeed has jealousy all over it.

- Violence. If there's a physical altercation due to jealousy: pushing, slapping, and hitting, this behavior should never be tolerated!

- Total silence and withdrawal. Intimacy and communication is the lifeline of a marriage. The affects of this form of jealousy can devastate a marriage, causing it to end.

If you spot the above behaviors, you need to carry out a plan of action and proceed to follow it to overcome the jealousy, before it destroys your marriage. It may be necessary to get outside help to discover the cause and find a solution to the jealousy problem with you or your partner.

If it is jealousy of some new friend that you have made, then invite your partner to meet them. If your partner is jealous because you have lost some weight and are receiving a lot of attention from the opposite sex, then take time out to show him that he's still number one in your world. Discovering the cause of why your partner is jealous will help you to counteract it with other actions.

Some people don't realize that they are being jealous.They need to be told in a polite, re-assuring way that their behavior is not acceptable. There are some who just naturally have a jealous character. It is hard to change them. If this is your nature, there is professional help available.
